What is individual Therapy?

Individual therapy covers more sensitive topics and personal feelings in a session. Individuals speak about their sexual addiction when they feel it's a safe environment. How the individual feels inside a therapy session will affect productivity. For example, how an individual progresses or newly discovered insights.

Sessions will generally last between 45 and 50 minutes. Yet, the frequency and duration of the therapy sessions will depend on your needs. Individual counseling is more flexible. A therapist can focus on isolated issues as they see fit. Their goal is to help you move forward and progress towards healing. As a result, it is easier to tailor treatment plans using this approach.

Are you living with betrayal trauma?

Is your world always feeling it's turned upside down? As a result, does overwhelming frustration now dominate your thoughts and feelings? If so, you may be experiencing betrayal trauma.

Betrayal trauma occurs when discovering a partner is indulging in sexual activities outside a relationship. Often, it leaves a person hurt and unable to overcome the pain of emotional or physical cheating. Likewise, threaten the stability of their relationship. Unresolved betrayal trauma can lead to a person experiencing uncontrollable emotions. For example, a person may feel shocked, anger, fear, and hopelessness throughout the day.

It's not uncommon for betrayal trauma to lead to depression, anxiety, or physical symptoms. An individual can overcome on their own. Likewise, if individuals have trouble processing traumatic events, extra support is required.

Today, many people struggle to find out where to begin by healing from trauma. Not knowing where to turn is always the primary reason why there is a delay in searching for help. As a result, individuals choose to live with the physical symptoms for years. When you decide it's time to make a change, Nova counseling is here to help.

What are partners of sex addicts?

Nothing can prepare you to discover the person you've depended on the most has betrayed you. Yet, recognizing it's not a one-time event but rather a developed behavior pattern. This type of information can be crippling for anyone. As a result, it often points to a more significant problem—a sexual addiction.

For partners of sex addicts, discovering a partner's sexual behavior can spin your world out-of-control. Your sense of safety destroyed in a split second. Your trust is gone, and everything you thought you knew is now in question. Often, leaving you in overwhelming confusion and pain. The sheer heart-rending betrayal begins to set in.

Partners of sex addicts should not be blamed. It is not their fault for falling in love with a man or woman who later becomes a sex addict. They are innocent bystanders placed in the path of destruction caused by their partners, who are acting out.

At Nova Counseling, we look at partner trauma. We know partners of sex addicts experience trauma symptoms. Yet, for some, they experience symptoms for extended periods. As a result, these partners of sex addicts are experiencing much more than acute trauma. They may have PTSD.

Why is individual therapy important in relationship counseling?

At Nova Counseling, we believe individual therapy should be part of any relationship counseling plan. Couples need to learn how to communicate openly. Especially towards any negative thoughts or emotions, they're feeling in the relationship. As well as any concerns about a person's risky sexual behaviors too.

If necessary, individual therapy is an excellent tool in relationship counseling. For example, a therapist may identify unhealthy behavior patterns in their relationship. As a result, addressing an individual's traumatic past experiences may help the problem in a relationship. Keep in mind, individual treatments in relationship therapy are about making meaningful changes, not playing referee.
